This recipe is inspired by my friend, Siby Hill, who grew up on a farm in Ohio and learned this hot drink from her mom. Rich and boozy (the rum is Siby’s special adult version), you can sip and savor a small portion, maximizing enjoyment.
1 (14-oz) can sweetened condensed milk
1 cups milk, or add more milk for a lighter taste
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
Pinch of salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 oz black or dark spiced rum (optional)
Pour both milks into a saucepan and place over medium heat. Whisk in the cocoa, salt, and vanilla. Remove from heat when the milk is hot. Portion into mugs and add desired amount of rum.
