A Nutrition Spokesperson’s Radio Media Tour at Home
Yesterday I woke up early to participate in a radio media tour, which is 10-20 interviews completed over a period of about 4 hours. While it may sound exhausting, it’s actually energizing to banter back and forth with radio hosts across the country.
I forced myself to go to bed a little earlier than usual the night before and actually felt good when the alarm shrieked for me to get out of bed at 5 a.m. My body has grown accustomed to waiting at least one hour after waking up before eating. Breakfast before 6 a.m. just doesn’t sound appetizing to me, but coffee almost always does, no matter the time.
I get really excited when a food company alters a product loaded with ingredients that sound like elements of a lab experiment and replaces them with natural ones. I redeemed a coupon for a free container of Coffee Mate’s new Natural Bliss Vanilla. The ingredients on the label include nonfat milk, heavy cream, sugar, and natural flavor, and totaling 35 calories and 1 gram saturated fat for one tablespoon, the portion I used. It tasted very good. Next time I may try the caramel flavor.
I toasted a slice of whole grain bread and spread it with sunflower seed butter and fruit preserves to nibble on between the first few interviews.
During another break I enjoyed a cup of blueberry Greek yogurt.
For a final morning snack I had my Afternoon Reboot Trail Mix and a stick of reduced fat cheese.
At lunchtime I craved something fresh and light. I found leftover pasta and extra bits of vegetables from my last TV segment in the fridge, so I tossed together this yummy pasta salad. Stay tuned for the recipe on Friday.
I started to hit the wall at 3:00. AH!!! Yes, just how Susie Essman (aka Susie Greene) said in a recent episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm.
I was back home at 6:00 after an afternoon workout and snacked on celery sticks, sugar snap peas, tarragon crackers, and a spoonful of tuna salad.
At the end of this long day, Steve and I decided to order Chinese takeout. We shared pork lo mein, snow peas, a vegetable eggroll, and a bowl of war wonton soup (which actually contained dumplings – puzzling), along with a modest glass of red table wine which I sipped over a couple of hours. We watched an episode of Weeds, and then I zonked out.

Leftover pasta usually ends up in some kind of salad, my favorite being a combo of pasta, cannellini beans, baby spinach, parmesan, and garlic/olive oil dressing.
I’ve been wondering if those new natural creamers are any good; thanks for mentioning them.

I like your pasta salad recipe idea too! Kind of a Tuscan Italian spin. I’m content with raw sugar and 2% milk in my coffee, but I sure am having fun right now with the Coffee Mate naturals. Nice to mix it up every once in awhile. I could see myself buying this from time to time.

I often make my own pasta sauce – I sautee onions and mushrooms in a mixture of olive oil w/ a few cloves of minced garlic. I then add 4-6 vine tomatoes and allow to simmer w/ 1-2tbsp of balsamic vinegar for about 10min. Finally at the end, I add about a 0.25c of fresh chopped basil. It’s delish, is not time-consuming w/ few ingredients, and very healthy :). Sometimes I couple w/ turkey sausage, as well, as a protein source.
I’m going to see about picking up the ‘sweet cream’ natural coffeemate next time!
