Food and Nutrition Writer Debuts Column in The Arizona Republic, Awarded Book Contract
Oh, how I’ve missed you all. It feels so good to allow the words to flow freely again. You could say that I’ve been a bit occupied. In the past few months I found out that a publisher was indeed interested in making my book idea a reality. I’ve been elbow deep in developing recipe concepts, testing recipes in my kitchen and writing.
Just weeks after I found out I had a publisher for my book, a lovely food editor I’ve worked with in the past, Karen Fernau of The Arizona Republic, called to see if I would be interested in being their new columnist for the Healthy Living section. Karen had noticed the recipes I’ve been posting on my blog and health editor Stacy Sullivan and I closed the deal. Of course I said yes to this opportunity of a lifetime.
Fast forward a few weeks and my column, “Dudash’s Dish” debuted last Friday. They even gave me a little blurb on the front page of the paper.
Karen wrote an introductory feature.
Page four of the Healthy Living section featured my pork medallions recipe and photo in all its glory. I was thrilled with how it turned out. What do you think?
Rest assured that you, my loyal readers, will be among the first to see the weekly recipes. Your requests on my Facebook page serve as inspiration for some of the dishes, too. And I’m also making an effort to step it up in the photography department. We all win.
About the book. I can officially announce it now that the news appeared in Publisher’s Weekly. My agents for whom I am so thankful, Lisa Ekus and Sally Ekus of The Lisa Ekus Group, championed this deal with publisher Fair Winds Press. Clean Eating for Busy Families will be published in the Fall, 2012! There will be much more exciting news as the process unfolds. Stay tuned.
As I work on my book in the months to come, you can expect to see regular healthy recipe posts, musings and event recaps from time to time.
My fridge stands full. The pantry borders between beautifully brimming and dangerously warranting a hard hat. My “to-do” list is a bit staggering, but I’m loving every minute of it. Okay, maybe not the times when Steve is away, I work until 1am, and Scarlet wakes up the next day at 6:30am. But, other than that, it’s all good.
